Brian Stann has worn gold before, as he was the WEC light heavyweight champion before entering the UFC.

Now, as he approaches a key middleweight contest with Michael Bisping, becoming a UFC champion remains at the top of Stann’s agenda.

Stann and Bisping will meet on September 22 at UFC 152. The card takes place live from Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

“The UFC title has always been in my sights,” said Stann, during a recent interview with UFC.com. “I’m not doing this for any other reason. I’m in this to be a champion.”

Stann (12-4) has won four of his last five fights, with the lone loss coming to two-time title contender Chael Sonnen in 2011. He has stopped all four of his latest victims, including two knockouts of Alessio Sakara and Jorge Santiago.

“I’m not here to waste time,” Stann said. “I’m not here to just say I’m a UFC fighter and wear a cool t-shirt. I wanna be a world champion, period.”

For “The All-American,” he knows that the most direct path to facing UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva is to handle Bisping next month.

“In order to become a world champion, I’ve got to beat Michael Bisping, period,” Stann said. “I’ve got to beat him and make a statement. I’m gonna finish him.”
