Former UFC champion Vitor Belfort will be attempting to emulate the opening round of the Lyoto Machida-Jon Jones fight when he takes on “Bones” at UFC 152.
Machida, using his southpaw and karate stance, landed several power strikes against Jones. However, in the second, Jones caught him with a standing guillotine choke and scored a submission victory.
“I’m just really excited to fight Vitor Belfort, mainly because he is a southpaw,” Jones said. “The last time I fought a southpaw, I got punched pretty good. I’m really anxious to do a better job against another dangerous southpaw and to look better than when I fought Lyoto.”
Jones (16-1) has successfully defended his title against Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Machida and Rashad Evans. Belfort (21-9) accepted the fight after Machida and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua turned it down.
