Jussier Formiga has been called one of the top flyweights in the world. Now, thanks to the UFC’s decision to include the division, Formiga can compete inside the Octagon.

Formiga will make his debut this Friday night vs. John Dodson at UFC on FX: Browne vs. Bigfoot. The bout will determine the No. 1 contender to UFC 125-pound champion Demetrious Johnson.

I’ve been waiting for this chance to fight in the UFC for years. Finally, there is a flyweight division so I can showcase my skills. I am looking forward to the whole UFC experience. I can’t wait to show the UFC what I can do.

Formiga is 14-1 in his career, with the lone loss coming to fellow UFC fighter Ian McCall. He has earned each of his last four victories via submission.

As for Dodson, a former winner of The Ultimate Fighter, Formiga says he “is a powerful striker and is very fast, but I am a BJJ and judo black belt.”
