It’s been several years since Jay Hieron competed inside the famed Octagon. This Friday night, he’ll return to the UFC to face Jake Ellenberger at UFC on FX: Browne vs. Bigfoot in the co-main event.

Hieron (23-5) knows Ellenberger as well as anybody in MMA, having defeated him in 2006 and trained a pair of fighters to compete vs. Ellenberger in the UFC.

“I couldn’t ask for a better comeback fight than Ellenberger. I feel I know what Jake brings to the Octagon as well as anyone. I beat him before, and I will beat him again. I taught him how to lose.”

Hieron left the UFC after a loss to Jonathan Goulet. During his first stint with the promotion, he faced Georges St-Pierre, falling via TKO in 2004.

However, from 2007 until late in 2011, Hieron won all 10 of his fights. His win streak was snapped by Bellator welterweight champion Ben Askren in a razor-close decision.

“I am just glad I’m going to fight in the UFC. I always believed I belonged in the UFC, that I was as good as the guys in the UFC.”
