Stephan Bonnar sees the opportunity to face Anderson Silva at UFC 153 as a blessing.
Bonnar, who all-but announced his retirement earlier this year, accepted the fight with Silva on short notice to give the Brazilian card a main event.
Now, as he put the finishing touches on his preparation for “The Spider,” Bonnar discussed the bout with MMA Fight Corner.
There’s a lot of weird superstitions. There’s like five Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays in October that happens once every 139 years. A lot of strange shit is happening. Kid coming, and stars aligning, and (October) 13 and five Monday, Tuesday, Wednesdays; getting called out of retirement to fight the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world, in his backyard, and being such an underdog. It’s all so perfect. I really believe it’s part of the plan.
Bonnar (15-7) was a runner-up on The Ultimate Fighter, and has been inside the Octagon with former UFC champions such as Lyoto Machida, Rashad Evans and Forrest Griffin.
The odds are stacked against (me) and no one’s giving me a chance, and I kind of like it that way. It’s no pressure on me.
