UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has skyrocketed up the rankings since joining the UFC.

However, it was not an easy climb for “Bones.”

After leaving college and embarking on a career in MMA, Jones had to fight his way to the top.

Now, he’ll get a chance to give back to the sport when he faces Chael Sonnen on the 17th season of TUF. The series will air beginning in January, and starts shooting later this month.

“I want my team to be extremely passionate,” said Jones, during a conference call to promote the show. “Hopefully, my passion will inspire my fighters. You also have to have the work ethic to back up that passion. Everyone has passion, but passion is worth nothing if you don’t have work ethic to back it up.”

Jones will balance rehab with coaching on the show over the next few months. He will face Sonnen in April at a site yet-to-be-determined.

He didn’t want to reveal any of his selected coaches for the show, but made mention of bringing in some of his first coaches instead of Greg Jackson or Mike Winkeljohn – who help train him now.
