The decision to move down to welterweight has paid off so far for Demian Maia.

Now, the former middleweight contender is targeting an even bigger name in the division.

Maia (17-4) has won both his UFC 170-pound bouts, including a quick submission victory over Rick Story recently.

“I think Nick Diaz and Jon Fitch are opponents that have names in this division and I would climb fast (with wins over),” said Maia, in a recent interview with Tatame. “Both have good jiu-jitsu, but I feel Fitch is more focused on wrestling and Nick is more of a boxer.”

Maia went just 1-2 in three middleweight bouts before dropping down to welterweight. He sports an overall UFC mark of 11-4, and once fought Anderson Silva for the title.

The Brazilian jiu-jitsu ace scored a TKO over Dong Hyun Kim in his debut at the weight class.
