Carlos Condit won the interim UFC welterweight title and waited for Georges St-Pierre to return, never defending the belt.

Now, it appears the UFC does not plan to do the same with Renan Barao, as UFC president Dana White told members of the media following UFC 154 that they will talk with the interim UFC bantamweight champion soon.

We were talking about Barao defending his title. So whether he wants to wait or not, we’re going to go back to him soon and have him defend it.

After securing the belt from Urijah Faber, Barao (29-1) stated he would like to face Dominick Cruz in a title-unification fight. However, a timetable for the return of “The Dominator” is currently unknown, and it appears the UFC wants to see Barao back in action.

White mentioned Michael McDonald (15-1) as a potential suitor for Barao. McDonald was rumored for the interim title fight before an injury knocked him from the competition.
