Mike Ricci was excited to know he would be able to see his Ultimate Fighter 16 opponent Colton Smith several times as the season unfolded on FX.

Ricci and Smith collide Saturday night for the title at The Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale.

“That’s the beauty of TUF: that you get to watch your opponent five live multiple times,” said Ricci, during a recent conference call. “Colton, I don’t think he even lost a round in TUF. He’s definitely gotten better and he’s in good shape, so I’ll do my best to prepare for him.”

Ricci, the second Canadian to make the finals, defeated Dom Waters, Michael Hill and Neil Magny. He knocked out Magny in the semifinals of the tourney.

Ricci was the third pick made by Shane Carwin. Smith was the fourth selection for Roy Nelson.
