Renato Sobral will compete in the upcoming season of Bellator’s light heavyweight tournament, knocking him out of a coaching spot on the next season of The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil.

Sobral will be competing against Mikhail Zayats later this month, while filming for TUF: Brazil would run right through a potential tourney run for the fighter.

“I can’t train and teach and coach at the same time,” said Sobral, during a recent appearance on MMAjunkie.com Radio. “I thought last time I could train and teach. But, if you go down there as a coach, you have to only coach.”

Sobral (37-9) was planning on being part of Fabricio Werdum’s roster of coaches as he competes against Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.

“Babalu” is no stranger to tournaments, having competed in seven. He owns five tourney titles, but those were of the one-night variety. Bellator’s is spread out over several weeks – something new to Sobral.

“I’m very excited about this because fighting in one night, you don’t feel much,” Sobral said. “You go into one fight and then another fight.”
