According to the Brazilian news site Tatame, Tavares will be suspended for nine months after bombing his drug test. The site did not name the banned substance that the fighter was popped for following his loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov in Brazil.

The newly-created Brazilian MMA State Athletic Commission handled the drug testing.
