UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez downplayed any notion that he would face American Kickboxing Academy teammate Daniel Cormier after winning the belt from Junior dos Santos in December.

However, UFC president Dana White recently stated that he believed Velasquez and Cormier could pair up and compete if the opportunity came together.

Velasquez denied that every happening during an interview on UFC Tonight, but did set a target date for his return to the Octagon.

“I would not fight (Cormier),” Velasquez said. “He’s my coach, teammate and my friend.”

The two-time UFC heavyweight champ feels like summer would be a perfect time for his next bout, though an opponent must be found after Alistair Overeem was upset by Antonio Silva.

Velasquez stopped Silva last year to secure his rematch with dos Santos, and the final decision in the UFC title match wasn’t really a close one.
