Frank Mir typically sticks close to his Las Vegas roots when it comes to training, preferring a sense of normalcy to moving around the country.

However, as he set to begin work for Daniel Cormier at UFC on FOX: Henderson vs. Melendez this April, the former UFC heavyweight champion has decided to train with Greg Jackson.

“I’ve always felt I have great trainers, so there was no reason to leave, but my wife and I were talking about how I needed to change things up,” said Mir, during a recent interview with ESPN. “One of the things was maybe I should get out of town and get more focused. I’ve always been impressed with Greg Jackson’s game planning. I figured before I retire, I want to be a part of that and see what makes this guy so successful.”

Mir lost his last fight to then-UFC champion Junior dos Santos in early 2012. He was scheduled to meet Cormier later in the year, but a training injury scrapped the bout.
