Renan Barao made a successful defense of his interim UFC bantamweight title Saturday night in London vs. Michael McDonald. Now, the Brazilian wants a unification bout with Dominick Cruz.

The only problem is that status of Cruz, who is currently rehabbing from a second knee operation. The UFC bantamweight champion hasn’t found in several months, forcing the UFC to create the interim title in the process.

“I’m waiting for you Dominick Cruz,” said Barao, following his win at UFC on FUEL TV 7. “Please come back quick.”

Barao improved to 30-1 in his career with a fourth round submission over McDonald, locking up the top contender in an arm-triangle choke. He is unbeaten since his pro debut in 2005, including five Octagon victories.

“There’s no doubt (McDonald’s) a very young talent and a very tough guy,” Barao said. “He was just another tough fight that I had to encounter. The toughest fight is going to be the next one.”

Cruz, who was working the post-fight show on FUEL TV, stated, “I love the challenge. I’m excited for it. I’m sorry that I’m making you wait for me. You deserve to get to fight me, and you deserve to get that loss.”
