Former Bellator middleweight champion Hector Lombard is just 1-1 in his two UFC appearances, but remains a viable contender because of his past success inside the cage.

Lombard, who defeated Rousimar Palhares this past December, will face one-time No. 1 contender Yushin Okami tonight in Japan at UFC on FUEL TV: Silva vs. Stann.

With a win, Lombard would improve to an impressive 33-3-1 in his career, and likely place himself right back in position to contend for the title.

For now, though, his sole focus is on figuring out Okami in front of the Japanese fans.

“I need to focus on this fight at the moment,” said Lombard, during the pre-fight press conference earlier this week. “After that, we can think about (a title shot). Right now, I am focusing on this fight.”

Lombard wasn’t as critical of himself when asked about his UFC debut – a loss to Tim Boetsch – as others have been. Still, he plans on fighting like he did vs. Palhares this evening.

“My last fight, I felt great, didn’t have any issues; that’s why I performed that way,” he said. “My first performance wasn’t that bad. I feel great for this fight. I’m going to do the same thing I did in my last fight.”
