I know, I know. The social media world is abuzz with thoughts of Mark Hunt replacing Alistair Overeem and meeting Junior dos Santos later this year.

First, I personally hope they just push dos Santos-Overeem back to July and give us the heavyweight match we’ve been waiting for.

But, if UFC officials and “Cigano” decide they want him on the Memorial Day weekend event, please, do not pair him up with Hunt.

Hunt’s this “love-child” that everyone wants to see succeed. Good for him, and I’m glad for any and all success that he enjoys.

But, there is no way he survives more than a couple minutes with dos Santos. Heck, Cain Velasquez didn’t the first time around (and yes, I know he was injured).

Nelson, however, stood and took the best JDS had to offer for 15 minutes. Did he exit the Octagon with a win? No, but he did something many others including Frank Mir, Gabriel Gonzaga, Stefan Struve and Fabricio Werdum couldn’t.

“Big Country” has a match scheduled with Cheick Kongo for April, but I see no reason they couldn’t find someone else – hey, Hunt’s available:) – to take Nelson’s place, allowing for another epic battle between two true heavyweight contenders.
