Former UFC light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin wants to get back into training and fighting as soon as possible.

His doctor, though, believes that is still a number of months away.

Griffin updated fans on Twitter recently with his status, and while the medical field believes he is progressing well, the former Ultimate Fighter winner differs.

Doctor said my knee is doing great and I’ll be able to go in 6-7 months. We must have different definitions of the word great.

Griffin defeated Tito Ortiz last year, and was scheduled to face Phil Davis in December prior to the knee injury in training. He is 19-7 in his career, and 3-1 in his last four.
