All Johny Hendricks wants is his chance to compete for the UFC welterweight title.

After defeating Martin Kampmann last year, “Bigg Rigg” appeared poised to cash in on the win and meet Georges St-Pierre for the title. However, GSP asked for Nick Diaz, and will face him this evening at UFC 158.

In the meantime, Hendricks will take on former interim UFC champion Carlos Condit in the co-main event. During the pre-fight press conference earlier this week, UFC president Dana White stated that the winner would receive the next shot at the title.

“My whole focus is on Carlos Condit,” Hendricks stated. “If I get a win, I can start campaigning for something else. If I get a win over (Condit), that’s awesome.”

Sitting right next to Diaz, who has had some choice words for him in the past, Hendricks offered no concern with not fighting in the main event.

“(Diaz) had to do what he had to do to get the fight,” Hendricks said. “If I overlook Carlos Condit, he’s going to beat my (expletive).”

While the spotlight is on GSP-Diaz, the Condit-Hendricks bout could steal the show. Both men want a knockout or finish in the worst way, and they each feel like they can compete whoever wins the main event.
