Pat Curran was likely overjoyed when he heard the news earlier this year that Bellator was planning to have their champions fight more often in 2013.
Curran, who successfully defeated Shahbulat Shamhalaev, is already looking forward to his next title defense of the featherweight title.
“As long as I’m healthy and have no injuries, I want to get right back at it,” Curran said. “That’s up to (Bellator CEO) Bjorn (Rebney) and the guys, and my coaches.
Curran mentioned returning this summer during the annual “Summer Series” that Bellator plans to put on. Daniel Straus is a potential challenger, but he was recently arrested on drug charges shortly after suffering an injury that knocked him out of a planned fight with the champion.
And, before we start talking about Curran entering the UFC’s featherweight division, he recently signed an extension with Bellator, so he isn’t going anywhere in the immediate future.
