Chad Owens was too small to find success in the NFL, but he has adapted to the Canadian Football League in a hurry.

After a standout career at the University of Hawaii, Owens claimed the CFL’s most outstanding player of the year away while competing for the Toronto Argonauts.

So, what does this have to do with MMA? Well, Owens made his amateur debut inside the cage this past weekend, scoring a decision victory.

Owens, 31 years old, defeated Junyah Tefaga in Hawaii. The bout was contested over two, three-minute rounds.

During the gridiron campaign, Owens racked up a league-record 3,863 all-purpose yards. He had 94 catches for 1,328 yards and six touchdowns while helping Toronto capture the 2012 Grey Cup.

While it isn’t the NFL, Owens’ team up north can’t be too happy with his off-season schedule.
