Former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos quickly proved to anyone that doubted his No. 1 ranking in the division that he is a true threat to the belt.

Dos Santos bruised and battered Mark Hunt for two-plus rounds Saturday night at UFC 160 before delivering a spinning wheel kick that dropped “The Super Samoan” to the ground. “Cigano” pounced and finished the fight with a devastating right hand.

“(Hunt) is very dangerous, I have a lot of respect for him,” dos Santos said. “He is a nice guy; I like people like him.”

Dos Santos, though, didn’t let his feelings for Hunt cloud his offensive attack, as the Brazilian displayed his exceptional boxing in bloodying up the rising contender.

The win, coupled with his previous victory over Cain Velasquez, the current UFC champion, should allow dos Santos a rematch before the end of the year.

“What I want most (is a title shot),” he said. “I want that so bad. I believe I can be the champion again.”
