A planned light heavyweight encounter is on the table for UFC 163, as former champion Lyoto Machida would welcome Phil Davis to Brazil.

The bout, according to Portaldovaletudo.uol.com, is nearly official for the August event from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It would likely serve as the co-main event to UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo facing Anthony Pettis.

Machida (19-3) seemed destined for a rematch with division champion Jon Jones after defeating Dan Henderson earlier this year, but that title shot appears to belong to Alexander Gustafsson.

Since a loss to Rashad Evans and a no-contest vs. Wagner Prado, Davis (11-1-1) has earned two consecutive victories. A win over “The Dragon” could position him for another marquee match and move him one step closer to a championship bout.
