Conflicting reports abound around the internet regarding a UFC 161 replacement for the injured Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, a.k.a. Lil Nog. Globo.com first reported that the injured Nogueira had suffered a herniated disc during his training camp for the fight. As the news spread and was confirmed by the UFC, Chael took to Twitter to offer his services as an available stand-in at the upcoming UFC 161:
Globo.com’s Ivan Raupp reported earlier today that Chael had been confirmed as Shogun Rua’s replacement opponent; however Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports stated that he spoke with Lorenzo Fertitta and that while the discussion was being had nothing had been signed nor had any offers been made for the replacement fight.
Globo was the first to break news of the injury so we’ll see if they continue in that vein with this early confirmation of Chael’s next bout. As with any replacement bout, both combatants must sign new bout agreements and the replacement fighter must be approved by the athletic commission to take part.
