It appears as if Chael Sonnen and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua will meet after all.

Sonnen confirmed on “UFC Tonight” Tuesday that he will face Rua on August 17 at UFC on FS1 1 from Boston. The two will provide the main event for the evening.

Earlier this week, reports came out that had Sonnen replacing Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and facing Rua next week in Winnipeg. However, visa issues caused the bout to be scrapped.

Instead, UFC officials put the two light heavyweights together for the debut of FOX Sports 1. Sonnen was interested in facing Wanderlei Silva, but the two seemed to be on different wavelengths as far as when the fight would take place.

“Shogun and I are going to be the main event on FOX Sports 1 on August 17. We were going to fight in Winnipeg, and they pulled it,” Sonnen said. “I like Shogun. I admire him a lot. I wanted to fight Wanderlei. He’s the worst fighter in the UFC. I couldn’t get him. I figured I’d get the guy who destroyed Wanderlei in the practice room for all these years.”

Sonnen (27-13-1) has lost to Jon Jones and Anderson Silva in title bouts. Rua (21-7) was defeated by Alexander Gustafsson to close out 2012.

The remainder of the card features Alistair Overeem-Travis Browne, Matt Brown-Thiago Alves, and the recently-announced Urijah Faber-Yuri Alcantara bout.
