Fabricio Werdum believes his resume and current run in the UFC afford him the idea that a win over Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira cements his status as the UFC’s next contender at heavyweight.

While UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez is expected to face Junior dos Santos for a third time later this year, Werdum will take to the Octagon Saturday night in Brazil at UFC on FUEL TV: Nogueira vs. Werdum.

“If I beat ‘Minotauro,’ I want the chance for the title shot,” said Werdum, during a recent episode of “UFC Tonight.” “I’m just waiting for ‘Cigano’ vs. Velasquez.”

Werdum and Nogueira faced each other seven years ago, with the former interim UFC heavyweight champion scoring a decision victory in PRIDE.

“I’m a completely different fighter now,” Werdum said. “I’ve been training and learning a lot. My setup is very good now, my Muay Thai is better and my wrestling is better. I’m more confident now.”
