Glover Teixeira made it known recently that he was approached by the UFC about replacing Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and meeting Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC 161.

As we all know by now, Nogueira was forced out, Chael Sonnen was set to replace him, but was unable to obtain proper documentation to make it to Canada this coming Saturday.

Instead, Rua and Sonnen will face off later this year, while Teixeira awaits word on his return. The Brazilian told Tatame that he was unable to accept the match because of a broken hand.

“They searched my manager and asked if I could replace (Nogueira), but (I was) denied because my hand is still sore.”

Teixeira recently earned his fourth straight UFC victory – and 19th overall – when he bested James Te Huna. That came on the heels of a win over Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.
