UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman will always remember the day he knocked out Anderson Silva.

Now, Weidman will have another important day to remember – Chris Weidman Day.

New York state senator Dean Skelos, Nassau County executive Edward Mangano and Hempstead supervisor Kate Murray made it official that today would be “Chris Weidman Day.”

Weidman is a former New York state wrestling champion and was an All-American at Nassau (N.Y.) Community College and Hofstra University. The ceremony takes place in Long Island.

Last year, while preparing to face Tim Boetsch, Weidman saw his family home devastated by the hurricane that hit the East Coast. He eventually underwent surgery before returning to the Octagon earlier this month, becoming the first UFC fighter to defeat Silva.

A planned rematch is in place between the two for December 28 at UFC 168.
