In April, Jorge Masvidal was the latest Strikeforce vet to impress in his Octagon debut, as “Gamebred” worked his way to a unanimous decision win over Tim Means at UFC on FOX 7. Means had gone undefeated in 11 straight fights prior to the bout.
Up next, Masvidal will look to record his second win with the promotion at UFC on FOX 8, when he takes on Michael Chiesa. So what does Masvidal think of Chiesa? Who won TUF 15 last year and is coming off a submission win over Anton Kuivanan at UFC 157? Apparently not much.
In a recent interview with MMA Junkie, this is what the 28 year-old Masvidal had to say about his upcoming opponent.
“There’s nothing nowhere that impresses me about him,” Masvidal said. “He’s like a watered-down Royce Gracie. I don’t see anything on this guy.”
“I’m excited about getting a W against anybody at lightweight, but especially against this guy. They’re giving me money at this point.”
Masvidal isn’t really holding back here is he? The well rounded vet did add, however, that:
“Anything can happen. Anyone can get caught. But nine times out of 10, I don’t think this guy has anything for me. I’ve fought better grapplers than him. I roll daily with better grapplers than him. And I don’t think his wrestling is as good as mine to begin with.”
It’s certainly an interesting match-up and a huge test for the 25 year-old Chiesa. UFC on FOX 8 will be hosted by Seattle’s Key Arena in July 27th.
