Joe Lauzon has scored several “Fight Night” bonuses for his performances inside the Octagon over the past few years.

Lauzon, who will face Michael Johnson this August at UFC Fight Night: Shogun vs. Sonnen, recently discussed the fighter-pay issue that continues to come up.

“We’re paid fighters, so getting in to the UFC doesn’t mean you’re gonna have this cushy job. You get paid based on how your performance goes,” said Lauzon, in an interview with 1460 AM. “I’ve been very fortunate where I have had some great fights and I’ve been rewarded with some bonuses. I couldn’t be happier with the pay structure. It all comes down to people wanting to see you fight.”

Lauzon has won “Submission of the Night” six times, “Fight of the Night” five times and has one “Knockout of the Night.” He is currently tied with Anderson Silva for most bonus awards, helping boost his pay checks despite being a mid-level fighter.
