Chael Sonnen will be fighting for the final time at 205 pounds next month.
According to Sonnen himself, the former contender will return to middleweight after a meeting with Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC Fight Night: Shogun vs. Sonnen on August 17.
The fighter agreed to a new five-fight deal with the promotion recently, and stated on “UFC Tonight” that the contract has a return to middleweight written into it.
Sonnen previously fought for the UFC 185-pound title twice, falling to Anderson Silva both times. He also lost to Jon Jones for the UFC light heavyweight title earlier this year.
The outspoken fighter from Portland has moved his training camp to Reign MMA with Mark Munoz acting as his head coach.
