Although John Moraga is just two fights into his UFC tenure, and will fight for the promotion’s flyweight belt tonight at UFC on FOX 8, the challenger certainly appears to be taking it all in stride. Aside from noting that Johnson “runs around too much” and arguing that the champ doesn’t “try to finish people”, Moraga has seemed pretty reserved heading into the biggest fight of his life.
One of the men who’s helped Moraga become a force in the flyweight division is the MMA Lab’s John Crouch, who doesn’t believe jitters are going to be an issue for the decorated wrestler. The renowned jiu-jitsu instructor offered this comment to MMA Junkie.com, while discussing whether Moraga might be phased by the magnitude of his next bout.
“He wouldn’t care if it was in the parking lot in front of nobody, or if it was the main event,” Crouch said. “It’s not going to make a difference to him.”
Crouch also noted the following about the 29 year-old Moraga, who is coming off Octagon wins over Ulysses Gomez and Chris Cariaso.
“He’s really quiet. He works really hard and is a great teammate, but he doesn’t say a whole lot. He just goes about getting his work done. He’s one of the most dedicated guys I know, but you don’t hear a lot from him. That’s just not his style. He’s not one of the vocal leaders in the gym, but he leads by example.”
It’s certainly going to be interesting to see how the bout plays out. UFC on FOX 8 will be hosted by Seattle’s Key Arena.
