Ricardo Lamas and Anthony Pettis fans may have wanted to see the respective fighters take on Jose Aldo at UFC 163, but not too many hardcore fans will likely pass on watching Chan Sung Jung throw down with the featherweight champ Saturday. Even though Aldo is a heavy favorite heading into the bout, because of “The Korean Zombie’s” style and skillset, lots of people seem pumped for the fight and for good reason.
In the latest episode of “UFC Tonight”, commentators Chael Sonnen and Kenny Florian weighed in on the bout, and what Jung has to do to pull off the upset.
“He became the number-one contender with his boxing,” Sonnen said about “TKZ”. ‘He has the reach and knows how to use it. He’s great at ground and pound. He has an 83-percent takedown accuracy. When he gets down on the ground, he’s dangerous.”
“The Korean Zombie is a huge featherweight,” Florian noted. “He’s going to try to use the size advantage against Aldo. The key is to wrestle with him. You don’t want to strike with him. You have to watch out for those leg kicks. He has to nullify the leg kicks. He has to back Jose Aldo up. He loves to pressure and get in your face. He has great foot sweeps from the clinch. And in the transition on the mat, he’s as dangerous as anyone out there.”
With that in mind then, is either man predicting Jung to become the first man to defeat Aldo in 15 bouts and end his storied reign as champ? Nope.
Florian reportedly stated “Aldo is too explosive and powerful”, while Sonnen added “I think the experience is going to be an edge, and since Aldo is fighting in his home country, he’s going to have a big advantage.”
It’s still could be a barnburner and definitely falls in the “can’t miss” category. UFC 163 will be hosted by the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday.
