Tim Kennedy seemed like a kid on Christmas morning when he wrote on Twitter that he would be fighting Vitor Belfort.

However, just a few days removed from making that announcement, Kennedy is confirming that there will be no fight with “The Phenom.”

“The fight against (Belfort) never materialized,” Kennedy posted on Twitter recently. “I want to thank (Dana White, Lorezno Fertitta) it was an honor to be considered.”

Reports from Belfort’s camp claimed that the middleweight contender would not take a bout in the weight class that wasn’t for the championship. He was willing to fight anyone at a catch-weight.

Kennedy, a former contender in Strikeforce, picked up a win over Roger Gracie in his UFC debut earlier this year.

The fight was rumored for the planned – but unannounced – October return to Brazil for the promotion.
