Phil Davis and Alexander Gustafsson have met before, with “Mr. Wonderful” earning a submission victory over the current top challenger to the UFC light heavyweight title.

With Davis’ win over Lyoto Machida Saturday night at UFC 163, he likely vaulted himself into a better spot to contend for the belt.

But, what happens if “The Mauler” defeats Jon Jones next month at UFC 165 when they collide? Will Davis and Gustafsson put their friendship aside to meet for the belt?

“Yes,” said Davis, appearing on the FUEL TV post-fight show. “We discussed this. We have the attitude that iron sharpens iron.”

Davis added that the two have helped each other out, Gustafsson improving his “overall game” and Davis returning the favor with “his wrestling.”

While some questioned the decision made by the judges to score the bout for Davis, it remains to be seen where he gets slotted in the rankings.
