Former Strikeforce middleweight champion Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza had little trouble in his UFC bout with Chris Camozzi earlier this year, scoring a first round submission victory.

His second appearance inside the Octagon takes place next month when he meets one-time title contender Yushin Okami at UFC Fight Night: Bader vs. Teixeira.

With a win, Souza (18-3) would possibly place himself on the shortlist of contenders. He has won four straight since a loss to Luke Rockhold in Strikeforce in 2011.

However, “Jacare” doesn’t necessarily believe he is in line to be the No. 1 contender. That honor belongs to Vitor Belfort.

“I believe Vitor showed, after his last two fights that he should fight for the title,” said Souza to MMA Fighting. “He destroyed everybody and is the next contender. But it’s up to the UFC, I’d accept that fight.”

Souza is an accomplished submission fighter, having competed numerous times at ADCC events. He is also a multi-time CBJJ World Champion in the black, brown and purple belt divisions.
