Chael Sonnen still has hopes for a future match with Anderson Silva – for a title or not.
However, Sonnen is also targeting another pair of Brazilian middleweights, and that is the reason for his decision to return to 185 pounds after Saturday’s bout with Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC Fight Night: Shogun vs. Sonnen.
“I am chasing after two guys: Vitor and Wanderlei,” said Sonnen, during a media conference call earlier this week. “There wasn’t a whole lot of motivation other than that.”
Sonnen added that he is still interested in a third bout with Anderson Silva, mentioning he would take such a match even if “The Spider” doesn’t win back the UFC title.
Riding a two-fight losing skid, Sonnen isn’t putting any added pressure on himself to score the victory.
“All fights are a must win,” he said. “But I would never try less hard due to what happened in my previous match. I am going to put everything into this match.”
