Former UFC light heavyweight champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua doesn’t want a second straight loss on his resume after this Saturday’s main event fight vs. Chael Sonnen at UFC Fight Night 26.

To avoid that, Rua knows he will need to keep the wrestler – Sonnen – from imposing his will inside the TD Garden.

“I have worked a lot on takedown defense,” said Rua, during a recent conference call. “I know he is a great wrestler.”

While the threat of being dragged to the canvas concerns him, Rua plans to stick to his own strengths, as well.

“I have also worked a lot on my game, which is Muay Thai,” he said.

The 31-year-old Rua (21-7) is just 2-3 in his last five, but remains a strong contender in the 205-pound division thanks to his resume, which includes wins over Lyoto Machida, Forrest Griffin, Chuck Liddell and Alistair Overeem.
