The UFC has officially announced plans to return to Brazil this October with UFC Fight Night: Maia vs. Shields.
In the main event, welterweights Demian Maia and Jake Shields square off in a five-round affair. The co-main for the night boasts Erick Silva and Dong Hyun Kim.
The card takes place Wednesday, October 9 from the Jose Correa Arena in Sao Paulo, Barueri, Brazil.
Tickets will go on sale Wednesday through Tickets for Fun at 10 a.m. Brazilian time.
“I am very happy and proud to be the main event,” Maia said. “I’ve always wanted to fight for the UFC in São Paulo, were I was born and raised. I have a special connection with the Jose Correa Arena in Barueri, where I had my first major MMA milestone in 2006. My big goal is to get a title shot and become world champion. I know Jake Shields is a great opponent, with wins over names such as Dan Henderson and Carlos Condit, and beating him is sure to get me within title contention.”
Other bouts include Rony Jason-Jeremy Stephens, Thiago Silva-Matt Hamill, Fabio Maldonado-Joey Beltran, Raphael Assuncao-TJ Dillashaw, Hacran Dias-Rodrigo Damm and Iliarde Santos-Chris Cariaso.
