Opponents lined up in bunches for Chael Sonnen after he defeated Mauricio “Shogun” Rua earlier this year.

Now, with word that Wanderlei Silva will not be able to compete until 2014 at the earliest, UFC president Dana White is looking to fulfill Sonnen’s request to compete again this year with another opponent.

That man would be Phil Davis, according to White.

White stated following UFC Fight Night 27 that plans are being put together to pair Sonnen and Davis at UFC 167 in November.

“We talked a little bit (Wednesday),” White said. “He wants to fight on that 20th anniversary card. I’m working on it. That fight (vs. Davis) could happen.”

Like Sonnen, Davis is coming off a win over a former UFC light heavyweight champion in Lyoto Machida.
