Ben Rothwell made a statement Saturday night at UFC 164, and took the opportunity to make a plea to face a top-ranked fighter after doing so.

Rothwell finished off Brandon Vera and promptly called out Travis Browne, who is coming off a win over Alistair Overeem.

“Let me fight Travis Browne,” screamed Rothwell in front of his home-state fans in Wisconsin.

Well, Browne heard of the challenge and responded via Twitter.

“Ok (Rothwell) if it was about respect then you would work your way up the ladder and earn the shots I’ve earned,” he wrote, “not ask for them with the mic.”

Rothwell has gone 3-3 in his last six UFC bouts, including a loss to current division kingpin Cain Velasquez. Browne, though, has lost just once in his career to former challenger Antonio Silva.
