Josh Thomson will indeed fight Anthony Pettis, and it will be for the biggest stakes out there – the UFC lightweight title.

Following his impressive victory over Nate Diaz, Thomson called for a match with Pettis. Since that time, “Showtime” has won the UFC title.

The two will square off December 14 in the main event of UFC on FOX 9 from Sacramento.

Original plans had TJ Grant facing Pettis, but Grant confirmed on Twitter that he would not be medically cleared to compete following a concussion. The same issue knocked him out and inserted Pettis into a title fight with Benson Henderson last month.

Thomson is a former Strikeforce champion competing for a second time in the UFC.
