Alexander Gustafsson can become the third challenger to upend a sitting UFC champion this weekend when he faces Jon Jones for the light heavyweight title at UFC 165.
Gustafsson hasn’t fought since a December victory over former champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, but he sees no issues with going the full 25 minutes Saturday.
“It’s not an issue. I’m ready to go all five rounds. A perfect fight for me is a finish, but I’ll go all five if I have to.”
“The Mauler” hasn’t competed in a five-round fight yet, and has gone three full rounds just three times. Two of those, though, have come in his last two fights.
With Jones, Gustafsson is preparing for anything and everything; but realizes that the takedown will be coming at some point.
“I don’t know what to expect. I know he’ll go for a takedown, but I don’t know when he’ll do it. I will be in the cage with no thoughts and ready for anything.”
