Alexander Gustafsson went 25 minutes with UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones Saturday night at UFC 165, falling via decision.

However, “The Mauler” wasn’t upset that the outcome didn’t go his way, instead he was just happy to have competed for gold.

“It was an honor for me to fight the champ,” he said. “He is the champ for a reason.

“I will learn from this and come back much stronger.”

Gustafsson seemed to have Jones on the ropes several times through the first few rounds, but he wasn’t able to finish him off. Once the champion rounds came up, Jones was able to rise to the occasion and secure his sixth successful title defense.

“I am just starting my career,” Gustafsson said. “I have a lot left to do.”
