BJ Penn is returning to the UFC in 2014, and will do so at featherweight.
Penn, who trains with Andre Pederneiras and was awarded his black belt in jiu-jitsu from him, is – at least for the time being – chasing a potential UFC featherweight title shot and Jose Aldo.
“The Prodigy,” though, doesn’t sound too interested in squaring off with one of Pederneiras’ fighters in Aldo.
“I never had any intentions of fighting Jose Aldo,” he said, via BJPenn.com. “I’ve always been a loyal guy to my jiu-jitsu king. If I fight Jose Aldo….I’m fighting Andre Pederneiras. I’m fighting the man who gave me my black belt.
“It’s just not a comfortable feeling for me.”
Instead, Penn wouldn’t mind seeing Aldo move up to lightweight and vacate his title, leaving him in a potential championship situation with a win over Edgar.
“If that happens, great, I’ll take a crack at the 145 title,” he said.
