Nobody was surprised when UFC president Dana White announced that Fabricio Werdum would be the next challenger to Cain Velasquez.

The UFC heavyweight champion dominated Junior dos Santos Saturday night, earning his second consecutive title defense – both of which have come via finish.

With the manner that Velasquez beat on dos Santos, there was no need to make a fourth meeting.

“Werdum’s probably next,” said UFC president Dana White, during the post-fight press conference to UFC 166. “Werdum makes the most sense.”

Since topping Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Werdum (17-5-1) has remained on the sidelines. He has stated his desire to fight for the title, and was content with waiting.

The bout will likely be scheduled for sometime in early 2014.
