America will have its thirst for combat quenched once again as the UFC event “Fight for the Troops” is making a return for its third edition. While the card received a drastic change in its headlining bout when Tim Kennedy’s opponent was changed from Lyoto Machida, to Michael Bisping, now to Rafael Natal, this card’s main purpose to highlight the fighters both inside the Octagon, and outside.

With that said, this event doesn’t feature many anticipated match-ups, but as we’ve all experienced, it’s often cards like these that put on the best barn-burners. Let’s take a look at the odds for this event, and highlight a couple smart bets that I believe should be made.

Smart Bets

Bobby Green over James Krause at -105

Another kind of risky bet here, but one that is much more winnable than I believe the odds tell. Green is much more experienced against high-level competition and seeing as how both Green and Krause have awesome submissions, this fight should come down to the wrestling which is where Green thrives. This is probably my favorite bout of the whole card as both guys have shown potential and are on solid streaks, but stylistically, this fight should favor Green.

Ronny Markes over Yoel Romero at -125

Romero has received his fair touch of hype after scoring an impressive flying knee KO in his UFC debut against Clifford Starks. However, his next fight is against a tough and durable Brazilian who is on quite a roll. While Markes doesn’t have near the finishing capabilities that Romero has, he has consistency and more experience. That should prove enough in this bout, and at -125 odds, this fight isn’t too bad to go ahead put a mark on.

Colton Smith over Michael Chiesa at +325

The new Jon Fitch finds himself at the wrong side of the odds against Michael Chiesa here, probably due to getting KO’d in his last bout. He won’t run that risk here as he should be able to complete takedown after takedown against a one-dimensional grappler for 3 rounds. Of course, Smith will honor the American soldiers and say his 15 minute snooz-fest was for them, but nevertheless his wrestling makes all the difference in this bout. This could be your largest money maker of the night.
