Rousey Armbars Tate, Again

UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey would stay perfect tonight against Miiesha Tate at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. While there was plenty of excitement both in the crowd and on social media, Rousey’s constant pressure gave Tate very few opportunities to mount much offense as she was outstruck 134 to 28 and taken down six times to her one takedown. Rousey sought the finish early and often before finally securing the finish in the third round.

The bout was the longest of Rousey’s career but still allowed her to improve her streak to eight straight armbar finishes, putting her just shy of Giva Santana’s incredible streak of ten straight armbar finishes. The champion will now face number one contender Cat Zingano some time in 2014. The two were originally supposed to meet as the coaches of TUF 18 before Zingano was forced out with a knee injury.

The future is a bit more hazy for Miesha Tate after suffering her second UFC loss and her second loss to Rousey in as many tries. While the TUF 18 coach made many fans for her less abrasive than Rousey performance on the reality show, the second loss to “Rowdy” could put her out of the title picture for the time being.
