Former opponents Lyoto Machida and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua reunited for a recent training session in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Venum Fight was on hand to film it.

Machida and Rua fought twice over the UFC light heavyweight title back in 2009 and ’10. In the first meeting, Machida successfully defended the title with a decision win, but Rua rebounded to claim the rematch with a first round knockout.

The loss was the first of Machida’s career, but he has rebounded nicely and will fight for the middleweight title in July at UFC 175 against Chris Weidman. “The Dragon” has topped Mark Munoz and Gegard Mousasi at 185 pounds to earn his shot at the belt.

Rua, meanwhile, is coming off a loss to Dan Henderson in Brazil earlier this year. He currently does not have a bout lined up. Since his impressive win over Machida, Rua has gone just 3-5, including losses to Chael Sonnen, Alexander Gustafsson and Jon Jones for the title.
