Joanna Jedrzejczyk kept her perfect record intact Saturday night, likely putting herself in the position of No. 1 contender to UFC strawweight champion Carla Esparza.

Jedrzejczyk scored a split decision over Claudia Gadelha in the prelim main event of UFC on FOX 13. Gadelha had originally been tabbed for The Ultimate Fighter 20, but the numerous weigh-ins kept her from competing.

Esparza became champion with a third round submission over Rose Namajunas on Friday.

“She’s No. 1,” Jedrzejczyk said. “I knew it (would be a tough fight). I try to do my best.”

Jedrzejczyk (8-0) overcame several submission attempts and numerous takedowns by the Brazilian, dealing Gadelha (12-1) her first career loss. She used her striking to pepper her constantly.

“I did my job, she did her job,” Jedrzejczyk said. “It was a (great) fight.”
