Mike Winkeljohn has been working with Alistair Overeem for just a short time, but he has already seen enough to know there is one area nobody in the world can touch the former Strikeforce champion in.
Overeem will return to action later this year at UFC 185 vs. Roy Nelson.
“Alistair has a lot of speed for a heavyweight,” said Winkeljohn, during a recent appearance on Submission Radio. “And when he uses it right, I think no one can touch him. We just have to be in the right place at the right time.”
This past December, Overeem (38-14) dominated Stefan Struve, improving to 3-3 with a first round knockout victory. He’s also scored Octagon victories over Frank Mir and Brock Lesnar, while falling to Ben Rothwell, Travis Browne and Antonio Silva.
Nelson, meanwhile, presents a stiff challenge, as those three losses by “The Reem” have all been finishes. “Big Country” has earned 13 knockouts among his 20 career wins.
“He could knock out anything,” Winkeljohn said. “He could knockout an elephant if you let him. We have to watch out for that right hand, no doubt.
“I think the same thing that Stipe (Miocic) used against him can work because (Overeem) has much faster feet. Speed is a difference here.”
